The skies cleared, the weather cooperated and the Brookings Harbor Youth Soccer League and hundreds of kids celebrated their opening day.

For some, this was their first experience in an organized sport, the first time they put on a uniform that was too big, pulled up those socks all the way to their hips and then played with and against their friends.

All those days of endless practice and weird drills were now about to pay off. For some there was surely anxiety, after all there was the responsibility of knowing their position and places while trying to remember exactly which direction they were supposed to be going, and wondering exactly how much longer until they could have those orange slices.

For the more experienced players, it was the first day back to show those new skills. The traps and passes their coaches had them practice over and over, and of course showing off how much faster those new bright shoes made them run. One thing is for sure…opening day, like all opening days is the beginning of many weekends of fun, and the making of many new friends to come.

Thanks to all the coaches who have volunteered their time. Today the coaches celebrate that they made it through opening day, and get to look forward to picture day, surely coming soon.
