Brookings Man Dies in Charleston Harbor

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office reported that just after 2:15pm, Wednesday afternoon, July 8th, Officers were dispatched to reports of an apparent accidental drowning at the docks in Charleston.

Initial reports stated that the man, later identified as 64 year old Lyle G. Marrington of Brookings, Oregon, had fallen into the water at the docks as the result of a fishing accident.

As first responders from multiple agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Charleston Fire Department and the Coos County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, the man was removed from the water and life saving procedures were unsuccessfully performed according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office also recognized several good Samaritans who were extremely helpful during the incident.
