Bruin boys varsity baseball came into Saturday sitting on a record of 6-2 coming off a 3 game win streak in which the Bruins offense scored 58 runs in their last three outings.

Senior 3rd baseman, Kyle Burger, #5, looking to apply the tag.

The Bruins, hosting the  South Umpqua Lancers in a Saturday afternoon double-header at Bruin Field, came out strong against the undefeated 8-0 Lancers, as junior right-hander, Austin Dietrich, #13, holding the powerful Lancer offense scoreless in their half of the first, and then striking out the side in the second.

#2, Talan Pryor, applying the tag at 2nd base.

Offensively the Bruins would strike first after loading the bases with no outs and getting a runner across the plate to take an early 1-0 lead.

Dietrich would retire the side in the third as the Lancers struggled at the plate. Again the Bruins would string together hits in their half of the third, scoring senior short-stop Seth Valliere, #15, on a #28, Spencer Rosenberg single up the middle.

Spencer Rosenberg, #28, laying down the bunt.

Leading 2-0 after three innings, the Lancers finally broke through Dietrich’s pitching, drawing a lead-off walk and moving the runner around to score and cut the Bruin lead in half.

The Bruin bats went silent in the final innings, as the Lancers added 3 more runs in the fifth, extending their lead to 2-4 and taking the first of two.

Senior short-stop, Seth Valliere, #15, making the play up the middle.

In the second game, the Lancer offense would score early, sending six batters to the plate in their half of the first and establishing an early 0-2 that they would never relinquish. However, the Bruin boys would get runners in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run on a passed ball to cut into the Lancer lead.

Senior outfielder, Diego Turner, #11, making the catch in right field.

Brookings-Harbors left-handed pitcher, Ethan Orman, #22, would walk the first two Lancer batters to start the third, before settling in and sitting the Lancers down in order to end both the second and third innings.

Left-handed pitcher, Ethan Orman, #22, on the mound in the second game.

The Bruins Spencer Rosenberg, #28, would tie the game in the fourth and after neither team could get another runner across the plate, the game would go into extra innings before the Lancers would score twice in the tenth inning to sweep the Bruins.

The Bruins will be on the road to North Valley to challenge the 8-4 Knights with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
