Bruin Soccer Finishing Strong

Jess Beaman and his 13-0 boys varsity soccer team played two games this last week on their way to postseason play.

On Tuesday afternoon the Bruins played the South Umpqua Lancers, in what would prove to be one of the worst exhibitions by any high school athletic program after the Lancer Coach directed his players to line up on the half field, only play offense, and to leave all defense up to their goal keeper…, alone. The Bruins, in a gesture of ‘sportsmanship’, purposely held back scoring opportunities in front of the goal as the Lancers refused to apply any defense, often as 10 other Lancer players stood and watched.

On Thursday the Bruins were on the road to Winston to take on the 3-8-2 Trojans from Douglas High School. After the long bus ride, the Bruins stepped off the bus and immediately dismantled the Trojans.

5 Bruins got in the scoring column led by sophomore Fabian Villa #10 who struck for 3. Senior Harrison Nelson #16, senior Jair Valdovinos #13, Sophomore Jake Beaman #17, and junior Rylan Bruce all contributed to the final score.

But the news here, is that the Bruin defense broke down, allowing their first goal in 7 games. The obvious defensive lapse was only the Bruins 3rd goal against them all season, denying Bruin goalkeeper junior Juan Hernandez, his 10th shut-out of the 2019 season.

Sophomore midfielder Dylan Hodge #12 had 2 assists in Thursday game against the Trojans.

Tuesday afernoon was also senior night for the Bruins.
