Bruins Clinch 3 Game Series after Saturday Double Dip

Junior right handed hurler Jason DeShon #16 went 5 innings in a complete game Saturday, throwing a 13 strike-out no-hitter for the Bruins.

Saturday meant baseball to many BHHS families who, with the fans from Douglas that made the trip, enjoyed an afternoon of baseball as coach Keith Wallin and the Bruins varsity boys baseball hosted their first home games of the 2021 season.

The Bruins had matched up with Douglas earlier in the week and handed the Trojans their first loss at home and of the season before traveling to Brookings Saturday. In the first game of the days double header, junior right-hander Jason DeShon #16 took the hill for the Bruins and set the tone for the days contest, silencing Trojan bats from the first pitch, the final out.

Senior Payton Armentrout #1 went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI, 2 stolen bases, and scored 5 runs Saturday.

The Bruin bats were relentless facing the Trojan pitching and went right into their small ball game, unselfish at bats and situational hitting with a home-run by senior Adam Shew #13, putting the Bruins up 5-0 at the end of the second inning.

DeShon continued to challenge Trojan hitters striking out 13 batters while the Bruin defense played five innings of error free baseball to secure a 5 inning, shut-out no-hitter for both DeShon and the Bruins in the early game of the double-header.

Sophomore Kallen Christensen #12 finishing the double play.

In the second match-up, the Trojans saw a third Bruin pitcher dominate them in the three straight games when coach Wallin sent senior right-hander Andrew Burger #29 to the mound. Burger went two and two thirds innings striking out 6, walking 3 and giving up 1 hit.

Andrew Burger #29 struck out 6 in the late game Saturday to seal the series win 3-0.

Just as in the first two match-ups, the Bruin bats went to work racking up 13 hits over 5 innings and getting 10 Bruin base-runners across the plate.

Sophomore right-hander Kyle Burger #5 came in in relief and finished the Trojans off striking out 4 while giving up 1 hit as the Bruins took the 3 game series 3-0 scoring 30 runs and the Bruin defense giving up no runs in 3 straight games.

Senior catcher Jacub McCollum #20 Squaring up one of his 4 hits.

A special acknowledgement to the umpire of the double-header who umpired BOTH games alone after the second umpire was called to another venue. The school district is experiencing a shortage of umpires, if you would like to become an umpire please contact the school district to find out how today.

The 3-0 Bruins will face-off with a 3-0 Cascade Christian team Tuesday afternoon at 3:00pm.
