Bruins Soccer Too Much for Panthers

Junior Josh Serna #18 putting the header on goal, scored 2 goals for the Bruins.

The Bruins boys varsity soccer team hosted their northern Hwy. 101 rival Gold Beach Panthers in a late afternoon contest at Bruin field.

Looking to set the tempo of not only the game, but also the new season, the Bruins immediately dominated time of possession, controlling the ball and attacking the Panther defense.  Gold Beach weathered the pressure early in the half as the Bruins spread the Panther defense with attacks to the corners, setting up long crosses to the middle.

Freshman forward Tanner Anderson #4 attacking from the outside scored a goal.

Just under 15:00 minutes into the first half, the Bruin offensive pressure in front of the goal created the first scoring opportunity of the game, and junior Josh Serna #18 took the shot from just inside the penalty box to give the Bruins the 1-0 lead.

The Bruin defense shut down any Panther offensive attack early, pushing Gold Beach back into their own half and pressuring the Panther defense in front of the goal. This led to a break away opportunity that junior Diego Turner #3 put in the back of the net.

The relentless offensive pressure led to 7 Bruin goals, 2 from Josh Serna, 2 from Jake Beaman, 1 goal from Dylan Hodge, Tanner Anderson and 1 goal from Diego Turner.
