California Highway Patrol Announces New Traffic Schedule for US Hwy. 199

In an effort to allow contractors to focus on completing the necessary repairs to get the road fully reopened before the rainy season begins, a new traffic schedule for US Hwy. 199 in Del Norte County has been announced by California Highway Patrol beginning Thursday, Sept. 14th.

With the work on US Hwy. 199 involving multiple contractors working at several locations on the removal of hazardous trees, repairing and replacing damaged guardrails and slope stabilization, it was determined that vehicular traffic was unable to go through the site smoothly without completely stopping the work and in order to expedite the work while providing safe access for the traveling public, it is necessary to close the road fully twice daily.

Caltrans will continue to pilot northbound traffic from Patrick Creek to Oregon Mountain Road and southbound traffic from Oregon Mountain Road to Patrick Creek and motorists should anticipate up to one-hour delays during all open hours.

US Hwy. 199 in Del Norte County will be fully closed at Patrick’s Creek to the Collier Tunnel from 8:00am to 11:00am and again 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The roadway will open to one-way controlled traffic from 11:00am to 1:00pm Monday through Friday.
US Hwy. 199 will be open to one-way controlled traffic Saturdays, Sundays and before 8:00am and after 4:00pm. on weekdays.

This is subject to change if there is a safety risk to the traveling public and/or personnel.
