Counterfeit Money being Circulated

Over the past month and a half, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety has taken approximately a dozen known cases involving counterfeit money being passed. These dozen cases involve the use of “Movie Money”. The bills are produced and used by the film industry as movie props.

The Bills appear realistic but have distinct wording that is prominently displayed as “For Motion Picture Use Purposes”. The most recent use of these counterfeit bills are $50.00 bills. The bills have been used at locations where goods and services are exchanged in a fast-paced manner. Some of the locations have been gas stations, fast food restaurants, convenience and grocery stores.

For businesses, it should be understood these bills not only say they are not legal tender, but additionally, do not have the security measures that authentic bills do. They do not have a watermark, or any of the embedded security features.
