COVID-19 New Cases Hits New Daily Record and Continues to Climb

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to slowly grow after Oregon sees it second consecutive weekly increase adding 2,474 new cases, 46 more than the previous week. As a state, Oregon now reports 41,409 confirmed cases of COVID-19 also adding 32 deaths in the past week.

No changes were made to the governor’s County Watch List, keeping the total number of counties on the Watch List to five including the counties of Malhuer, Benton, Clatsop, Umatilla and Lane.

The Oregon Health Authority imposed new more restrictive mask requirements earlier in the week basically filling in gaps in multiple settings including workplaces, outdoor public spaces, and all private and public workplaces including classrooms, offices, meeting rooms and workspaces, unless someone is alone in an office or in a private workspace,” the Oregon Health Authority statement read.
Almost two-thirds of all COVID-19 confirmed new cases in the past week are reported by the same same six northern Oregon counties of Clackamus, Marion, Multonomah, Umatilla, Washington and Linn which are responsible for 1,526 of the states total new cases from October 17th to October 23rd.

Curry County’s latest report Thursday, October 22nd, now reports testing 2,317 individuals with 2,260 negative tests, and now has 6 active confirmed cases of COVID-19 after an outbreak at a Brookings senior memory care facility now over a week ago. Curry County has 50 recovered cases and has recorded 1 death.
Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 9,324 individuals with 9,131 negative results, 178 total confirmed cases, only 6 active cases reported to Public Health, with no current hospitalizations and 1 death.

Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports 562 total cases, adding 18 new CoVID-19 cases in the past week after testing 33,969 individuals with now 18 active cases, 535 recoveries, 36 hospitalizations, one new death in the past week totaling now 9 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, October 23rd.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 8,715 individuals with 8,543 negative tests, adding 9 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week with now 236 total positive cases and 0 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Josephine County reports testing 14,452 individuals with 14,223 negative results, adding 9 new cases in the past week, 262 total positive cases of COVID-19 and now 3 deaths.

Jackson County continues to see significant increases after reporting another 78 cases of COVID-19 this past week after testing 41,886 individuals with 40,378 negative test results, 1,617 total cases of COVID-19, and no new deaths in the past week totaling 6 deaths as of Friday, October 23rd.
