COVID Cases Grow as Gov. Brown’s “2-week Pause” Edict Begins

Oregon COVID-19 confirmed cases reached 62,175 individuals as the state added 7,238 new confirmed cases in the past week with 59 deaths, 19 fewer than the previous week. On Friday, November 20th, Oregon also broke it’s single day number for confirmed cases after surpassing just over 1300 new confirmed cases in a single day.

As ominous as the 7,238 new confirmed cases appears, that is 3,238 fewer weekly cases than the 10,549 reported the week prior, and the 59 deaths are 19 fewer than the 78 reported the week before.

Businesses across the state are now into their third day of enduring Governor Brown’s “2-week Pause” lockdown that severely limits business and travel in the state after 9 months of social distancing, phase lockdowns and travel restrictions, mask mandates and school closures.

Still two-thirds of all COVID-19 confirmed new cases in the past week are reported by the same same six northern Oregon counties of Clackamus, Marion, Multonomah, Umatilla, Washington and Linn counties which are responsible for 11,973, or 68% of the states total new cases from November 7th to November 20th. These same 6 counties are responsible for 65%, or 40,777 of the states 62,175 total cases and a stunning 71% of all of the states COVID-19 deaths.

Curry County’s latest report Friday, November, 20th, now reports testing 2,769 individuals with 2,669 negative tests, and now has 31 active confirmed cases of COVID-19, 104 total cases and has recorded 2 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, November, 20th.

Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 10,113 individuals with 9,840 negative results, 273 total confirmed cases, 53 active cases reported to Public Health, with no current hospitalizations and 1 death.

Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports 730 total cases, adding 75 new CoVID-19 cases in the past week after testing 41,133 individuals with now 94 active cases, 627 recoveries, 41 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, November, 20th.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 10,866 individuals with 10,585 negative tests, adding 86 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week with now 368 total positive cases and 1 death since the beginning of the pandemic.

Josephine County reports testing 17,385 individuals with 17,302 negative results, adding 106 new cases in the past week, 401 total positive cases of COVID-19 and 4 deaths.

Jackson County continues to see significant increases after reporting another 1,043 new cases of COVID-19 this past week after testing 51,533 individuals with 48,454 negative test results, 3,240 total cases of COVID-19 and 19 deaths as of Friday, November, 6th.
