Crescent City Police Chief Warns of Counterfeit Currency Circulating Locally

Chief Griffin of the Crescent City Police Department reported that local businesses have been experiencing an increase of counterfeit bills in our community.

Chief Griffin described one instance of what appeared to be a “washed” one dollar bill that had been re-printed as a twenty dollar bill. This technique then makes it difficult to identify counterfeit denominations, since the marking pen procedure identifies the counterfeit currency as printed on the proper material.

Another example of counterfeit currency described by Chief Griffin are denominations of bills identified as money made for motion picture purposes.

Individuals and businesses are advised to inspect money received and call the Crescent City Police Department to report counterfeit bills if and or when they are located.
