Curry County Remains at ‘Moderate Risk’ as State Numbers Continue to Slow

Oregon COVID-19 infection rates continue to see a significant decrease and has now fallen to under 300 cases per day now averaging just 273 new cases per day with 1,912 new COVID cases across the state. Oregon continues to hold one of the lowest infection rates in the nation with now 156,884 cases. Hospitalizations slowed again for the third consecutive week with 23 fewer individuals requiring hospitalization in the past week than the week prior, adding only 144 individuals requiring hospitalization, raising the statewide total to 8,714. 84 individuals succumbed to COVID-19 in the past week, making the total deaths for the entire state of Oregon, 2,293 since the pandemic began.

After almost a year of Governor Browns school closings, on Friday, March 5th, Governor Brown announced a directive in a letter addressed to the Oregon Health Authority that all public schools will operate delivering in-person instruction through either a fully on-site or a hybrid instructional model by the end of April. The order directs school districts to open for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade on or before the week of March 29th, and for students in grades 6-12 on or before the week of April 19th.

According to Curry County Public Health Administrator Sherrié Ward, Curry County remains at the “Moderate Risk” level, and under Governor Brown’s framework for assessing the risked posed by the spread of COVID-19, the Governor’s risk assessment matrix will continue the increased restrictions on some business and personal activities within the county.

Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday by the Oregon Health Authority, March 6th, now reports testing 8,880 individuals with 8,511 negative tests, 369 total positive COVID-19 tests and after adding 24 new cases in the last week has recorded 436 total cases and now 6 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 13,154 with 12,134 negative results, 26 active cases and 1,020 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, with 1 current hospitalization and now 5 deaths.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 37,493 individuals last week with now 1,576 total positive cases and 21 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Josephine County reports testing 54,268 individuals with 51,557 negative results, 2,390 total positive cases of COVID-19 and now 56 deaths.

Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports 3,266 total cases after testing 75,344 individuals with 72,078 negative results, 120 active cases, 3,113 recoveries, 135 hospitalizations, and 33 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, March 6th.

Jackson County continues to see significant increases after testing 185,505 individuals with 172,945 negative test results, 8,543 total cases of COVID-19 with now 118 deaths as of Friday, March 6th.
