Early Morning 7.0 Quake Shakes Off the Alaskan Peninsula

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 struck 85 miles off the Alaskan peninsula just before 5:00am Saturday morning, August 14th.

The quake was 20 miles deep and based on USGS earthquake information and historic tsunami records, the earthquake did not generate a tsunami and was not expected to generate a tsunami or tsunami danger for the U.S. West Coast, British Columbia, Alaska or Hawaii.
