Early Morning Crash Sends One to the Hospital

Early Wednesday morning, multiple agencies including Illinois Valley Fire District, Rural Metro Fire and the Oregon State Police responded to a rollover crash on Redwood Hwy 199 near Hayes Hill just after 5:30am.

Josephine County Correctional Officers, along with an off-duty Rural Metro firefighter, were among the first to arrive and render aid after finding the driver initially unconscious as they worked to stabilize the vehicle and create a plan for extrication.

The off-duty firefighter, utilizing a personal saw, removed the windshield in preparation of arriving rescue crews. A task that accelerated the extrication process.

Upon arrival of Rural Metro Fire, Illinois Valley Fire District and AMR-Josephine County, the driver was transferred to the ambulance and transported to the hospital with possible spinal injuries.

Oregon State Police is handling the investigation.
