Fire Destroys Harbor Home

At approximately 6:45 am Saturday morning, June 23rd, Harbor Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Oceanview Dr. in South Harbor.

According to Incident Commander Thomas Sorrentino of the Harbor Fire Department, when first responders arrived at a scene of a heavy fire on the ocean side of the approximately 2200 square foot 2 story structure.

Fire units from Brookings, Winchuck, Cape Ferrello, Smith River and Fort Dick were immediately requested for mutual aid as the fire began to breach the roof. Gold Beach Fire Department also assisted as they covered both the Brookings and Harbor Districts should another fire or rescue event arise in the area.

An estimated 30 personnel were on the scene including the newly established Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) which Incident Commander Thomas Sorrentino commended for doing “a great job”.

The Curry County Fire Investigation Team has determined the fire to accidental and unfortunately, the structure was determined to be a total loss. All occupants escaped the fire and no injuries have been reported.
