Flood Watches Issued Up and Down the Southern Oregon and Northern California Coasts

Another round of heavy rain is forecast to continue through the weekend, prompting local rivers to rise and the National Weather Service to issue Flood Watches up and down the southern Oregon and northern California coast lines.

The Chetco River, the Smith River, the Rogue River and the Coquille River are all expected to rise through out the weekend, with the heaviest precipitation forecast Friday night through Saturday afternoon.

Local rivers, the Chetco River and the Smith River, are expected to crest late Saturday, with the Chetco reaching ‘action level’ Saturday morning, reaching 18.5ft before cresting at over 21ft. later Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:00pm.

To the south, the Smith River is expected to peak late Saturday evening to very early Sunday morning, peaking at 27.5ft. with ‘action level’ at 27.0ft.

The Rogue River in Gold Beach is expected to get as high as 12.0ft. late Sunday morning, approximately 2.0ft. below ‘action level’ .

The Coquille River is expected to be at ‘action level’ Friday evening at 20.0ft, cresting late Sunday afternoon at about 3:00pm well into the ‘Minor Flooding’ stage at over 22.0ft.
