Gov. Brown says 4th Wave is Here… Curry County moves to ‘Moderate Risk’

Oregon COVID-19 infection rates have seen a slight uptick since Spring Break and now averages at 640 new cases per day for the past week since April 17th, now with 4,484 new COVID-19 cases across the entire state. Oregon now has a total of 178,110 COVID-19 cases statewide since the pandemic began. Hospitalizations continued to stay low, raising the statewide total to 9,983 since the beginning of the pandemic. According to the Oregon Health Authority, 19 individuals succumbed to COVID-19 in the past week, making the total deaths for the entire state of Oregon, 2,476 since the pandemic began.

The Oregon Health Authority has released that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating the death of an Oregon woman this past week following immunization with Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Oregon Health Authority was notified of the potential adverse event on April 20th, two days after the CDC was notified on April 18th. The Oregon resident, a woman in her 50s, received a dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine before the pause order on its use was issued and developed a rare but serious blood clot within two weeks following vaccination.

According to a press release from the Curry County Public Health Administrator Sherrié Ward earlier in the week, during the reporting period of Tuesday April 13th, through Tuesday April 20th, Curry County Public Health received notification of 21 new confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Under Governor Brown’s framework for assessing the risk posed by the spread of COVID-19, the decrease in COVID-19 cases has moved Curry County from ‘High Risk’ to ‘Moderate Risk’ effective beginning Friday, April 23rd.  The Governor’s risk assessment matrix will now ease Curry County restrictions on some business and personal activities.

*Although Curry County was moved to ‘Moderate Risk’ as of Friday, April 24th, this is the most recent map released by the Oregon Health Authority as of Friday, April 24th .

Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday April 16th, by the Oregon Health Authority, now reports testing 11,484 individuals with 10,968 negative tests, 516 total positive COVID-19 tests and after adding 16 new cases in the last week and has recorded 607 total cases and still 9 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 14,499 with 13,206 negative results, 17 active cases and 1,293 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, with 2 current hospitalizations and now 7 deaths.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 47,126 individuals last week with 44,688 negative results, 2,438 total positive cases and 31 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Josephine County has seen significant increases in recent weeks has reported testing 73,172 individuals with 69,571 negative results, 3,601 total positive test results and 3,130 total cases of COVID-19 and now 64 deaths.

Humboldt County which includes the Eureka area, to the south of Del Norte County reports 3,717 total cases after testing 85,775 individuals with 82,058 negative results, 163 active cases, 3,516 recoveries, 143 hospitalizations, and 38 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Jackson County with a total population of 221,290, which includes the Medford area, reports testing 224,654 individuals, 3,364 more people than the counties total population, with 209,273 negative test results, 15,381 positive results, and 10,186 total cases of COVID-19 with now 129 deaths as of Friday, April 24th.
