Head-On Collision Claims Life

On Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at approximately 9:30 AM, Oregon State Troopers from the Central Point Area Command responded to a 2 vehicle crash on Highway 140 in Jackson County approximately 25 miles east of Medford. Both lanes were blocked for several hours.

The preliminary investigation has determined that a 2018 International box truck operated by 43 year old, Douglas MITCHELL, from Shady Cove, OR was eastbound on Hwy 140. For an unknown reason, the box truck crossed over the centerline into the path of a 2007 Sterling semi-flatbed truck, resulting in a head-on collision. The operator of the semi received minor injuries. The operator of the box truck died as a result of the injuries sustained in the collision.

The Oregon State Police was assisted by Mercy Flights, Fire District 8 and Oregon Department of Transportation.
