Head-on Collision Closes Hwy. 199 for Multiple Hours

On Sunday afternoon, just after 4:30pm, a head-on collision blocked traffic for several hours on Redwood Hwy. 199 at Hayes Hill.

Rescue crews from Rural Metro Fire – Josephine County, American Medical Response-Josephine County, Illinois Valley Fire District, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Transportation & Josephine County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Firefighters had to extricate four occupants from the vehicles, all of which were transported, two in serious condition. Mercy Flights Inc helicopter “105” landed at the scene and transported one of the serious patients to a Medford hospital. Unfortunately, one occupant was pronounced deceased on arrival.

Oregon State Police is investigating the cause of the crash, and has conducted notification to the family of the deceased.

Highway 199 remained closed until 9:30pm Sunday night.
