High Pressure Brings Hot Weather and Red Flag Warnings

Hot temperatures will return this week. Temperatures will rise into the upper 80s and 90s across inland valleys Tuesday through Thursday.

Along the coast, temperatures will warm into the 70s with locally warmer conditions near Brookings. Gusty winds over the mountains combined with the heat will result in increased fire danger.

Brookings:

A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 11 pm Sunday to 11 am Tuesday morning in Curry, western Josephine and western Siskiyou counties.

Medford:

Moderate to strong and gusty easterly winds will combine with poor relative humidity recoveries overnight and very low daytime relative humidities to result in very high to extreme fire danger. Any new or existing uncontained fires could
grow rapidly.

Northeast to east winds 10 to 25 mph with gusts 20 to 35 mph. The strongest winds are expected to generally occur during the morning hours.

High pressure is building into the area for the start of the work week. Offshore flow will keep the coastal areas mostly clear and warm through Wednesday. Thursday a return of coastal clouds is possible bringing cooler temperatures. Cooler temperatures across the inland areas are expected Friday and Saturday. There is the potential for some light rain on Saturday.
