High Speed Chase on Hwy. 101 Ends with Spike Strips and 2 Arrests

Early Wednesday evening, June 28th, a blue/green Honda was observed by a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy traveling on northbound Hwy. 101 at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle, and after the car failed to stop, a pursuit ensued northbound on Hwy. 101 reaching speeds of 90 mph.

As the pursuit traveled north out of North Bend, stop sticks were deployed by the Oregon State Police near Eel Lake, ultimately disabling the vehicle after effectively deflating the suspect vehicle’s right front tire.

The driver, 36 year old Misty A. Lavellie, was arrested on charges of eluding by vehicle, 7 counts of reckless endangering, reckless driving, and hindering prosecution, and was transported to the Coos County Jail, where she remains in custody.

36 year old Niles B. Johanson, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested on several outstanding felony warrants, including an abscond probation warrant from Lane County, and was transported by the Oregon State Police to Lane County on his outstanding warrants.
