High Speed Chase Results in Rollover

On Wednesday, November 22nd at approximately 3:30 PM, an Oregon State Police Trooper attempted to stop 39-year-old Harold Deandre Jones who was operating a white 2012 Chrysler 300 for excessive speed on I-5 near Eugene.

Jones initially stopped, and when the Trooper approached the vehicle to contact Jones he fled in the vehicle northbound at speeds in excess of 100mph while passing holiday traffic on the right shoulder.

The OSP Trooper did not engage in a pursuit but subsequently found JONES and the vehicle rolled over at milepost 199 in Coburg. JONES will be treated and released at a local hospital for minor injuries and subsequently booked into Lane County Jail for Attempt to Elude Police by Vehicle, DUII-Controlled Substances, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, and Misdemeanor Driving While Suspended.

The Oregon State Police was assisted at the scene by the Coburg Police Department, Coburg Fire Department, Eugene/Springfield Fire Department, and ODOT. The right lane of the freeway was closed for approximately thirty minutes until the vehicle could be removed from the roadway.

The Oregon State Police would like to remind holiday travelers to be patient in their travels and drive safely.
