K9 Christmas Gifted Vest

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office K9 Titan will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Titan’s vest is sponsored by an anonymous donor. It will be embroidered with the sentiment, “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.” K9 Titan’s partner, Deputy Tracy Lenhardt, looks forward to the delivery of the vest in approximately eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a charity located in East Taunton, Massachusetts. Its mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided more than 2,600 protective vests to dogs in all 50 states through private and corporate donations — a cost of more than $2.1 million.

The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950. Each vest has a value of $1,744 to $2,283 and comes with a five-year warranty.

The program is open to certified dogs at least 20 months old that are actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9’s in service in the United States.
