As of the morning of Aug. 26, the Taylor Creek Fire is estimated 52,826 acres and is 95 percent contained. The Klondike Fire is estimated at 87,701 acres and is 41 percent contained. There are 1,240 personnel working on the Klondike Fire and 403 personnel assigned to the Taylor Creek Fire.

Both fires have spread into and are actively burning in the footprint of the 2002 Biscuit Fire, which has contributed to the western spread of the fires. The western edge of the Klondike Fire has spread into the Kalmiopsis Wilderness and has run into the footprint from the 2017 Chetco Bar Fire, which fire managers are using as a natural containment line.

Six heavy air tankers including the DC-10, one of the largest air tankers in the world, were used in the past two days and will continue to be used if possible. So far, roughly two miles of retardant have been laid along the ridgeline.

Aircraft dropped 121,000 gallons of retardant along the ridge. Although the fire reached the ridge top in two locations, helicopters and air tankers successfully prevented the fire from spreading over the ridge.

Crews continue to make progress on containment lines by clearing additional vegetation and laying hose lines on very challenging and unforgiving steep terrain.
