By all accounts, Sidney Alexander #11, starting point guard for the 2019-2020 Brookings Harbor Lady Bruin basketball team, has had a fantastic career for the Bruins, making her the perfect candidate to start off the Brookings Les Schwab ‘Star Student Athlete’. She will undoubtedly leave big shoes behind for future candidates to fill.

Coming up through the Azalea Lady Bruin program before her BHHS career, she established herself as a excellent shooter which was on full display at the state tournament. Sidney left her high school career on the court in the state championship tournament setting a record with 13 made 3-pointers this year. She finished 4th at the state tournament in scoring at 15.7 points per game over those 3 games. Sidney also had the highest Field Goal percentage at the state tournament at 55.2%, outstanding for a primarily outside shooter. She finished the year on an incredible run. In her last 5 games of her career (all playoff games), she made 18 of 33 3-pointers for a ridiculous 54.5%!

Those numbers are strictly post-season. Sidney Alexander hit for 82 three pointers her senior season setting the school single-season record after surpassing Abby Farmer who held the record at 80.

Sidney had 665 career points making her #12 all-time, not to mention 156 career 3 pointers for 468 points placing her #2 all-time in Lady Bruin hoop history. Her 33% 3-point percentage leaves her #3 in Brokokings Harbor Lady Bruin basketball history.

But being the all around player she proved to be, she also shot 63% from the free throw line, again, #3 all-time.

“Sidney did everything asked of her, both on and off the court.” Coach Schofield said. “Her work ethic, desire, and overall character made her a joy to coach, an incredible asset to the program, her teammates and her coaches who were fortunate enough to work with her every day.” He went on to say.

“She got better as a defender every year as did her ball-handling, passing, court vision, and leadership. She really grew as a player and a leader and played fearlessly for us.” Head Coach Chris Schofield told the Wild Coast Compass.
