Lady Bruins at Wrong End of No-Hitter Tuesday

Junior right-hander Madison Taylor #22 shut down the Lady Crusaders after the 1st, striking out 5.

The Lady Bruin varsity softball team took to the road Tuesday, traveling to Medford to take on the 3-0 undefeated Cascade Christian Lady Challengers to decide who would move on undefeated.

Brookings-Harbor offensively has been hot at the plate with hard hit balls in the short game, deep power, and pressure on the base paths, but Cascade Christian pitching challenged the Lady Bruin attack from the first pitch, retiring the first three Lady Bruin batters with two strike-outs and a routine grounder.

Junior right-hander Madison Taylor #22 was in the circle for coach Tony Baron and the Lady Challengers took the Lady Bruin offensive game-plan and used it against them, putting their first two batters in scoring position on 2nd and 3rd after a Lady Bruin defensive error and a stolen base. A second defensive error would result in two Lady Challenger runs with no outs in the bottom of the 1st.

Lady Bruin pitcher Madison Taylor would recompose, and take the rest of the inning into her own hands, getting the final 3 outs off of two strike-outs and a routine pop-up.

It then became a pitching dual from the top of 2nd on, with Cascade Christian’s senior right-hander Katelyn Willard striking out the side in the top of the 2nd and then Taylor answering for the Lady Bruins by retiring the next three Lady Challengers in order.

But the Lady Bruin bats never woke up, and Cascade Christian’s right-hander went on to throw a 7 inning full game no-hitter, striking out 15 Lady Bruins in the process.

Senior Madison Taylor threw what on any other day would have been a good outing, going 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 5, but the Lady Bruins could not recover the 2 runs from the 2 errors early in the 1st inning, and now sit at 3-1.

The Lady Bruins will see this same Cascade Christian team this Friday at home in a double header starting at 3:00pm.
