The Lady Bruins were on the road Friday night taking on the Bandon Lady Tigers in Bandon.

Coming off of Tuesday nights win over 53-40 North Bend, the Lady Bruins came out ready to run. Shelby Jirsa #5 and senior guard Sidney Alexander #11 both hit baskets in the 1st period and junior center Sierra Fitzhugh #00 hit for 4 points under the hoop.

Junior guard Lexi Schofield #1 put 9 points up in the 1st period behind two baskets, a 3 pointer, and going 2 for 2 from the line, while the Lady Bruin defense allowed only 9 Lady Tiger points in the 1st period.

In the second period the Lady Tiger defense slowed the Lady Bruin offense and Bandon had 3 players on the scoreboard who put up 13 points. The Lady Bruins just couldn’t anything to go inside scored all of their points in the 2nd period on 3 pointers from sophomore guard Jordan Crosby #34, Sidney Alexander, and Sierra Fitzhugh who also went 2 for 2 from the free throw line.

But there was no slow down when they came out for the 3rd period, as four Lady Bruins put points in the books. Sierra Fitzhugh hit her second 3 of the game and sophomore guard Faith Burton #14 sunk an outside 3 pointer. Again Lexi Schofield had another big quarter dropping 10 points from two 3’s, a basket and 2 free throws.

But the Lady Tigers stayed with the Lady Bruins, matching the Lady Bruins 18 third quarter 16 of their own closing the gap to points. Bandon then slowed the Lady Bruins in the 4th period by not allowing them to run and sending them to the free throw line 13 times in the final period.

Senior guard Sidney Alexander #11 hit two 3 pointers and a free throw in the 4th period for 7 of the Lady Bruins 9 points in the final period. The Lady Tigers made it a close game taking advantage their opportunities as the Lady Bruins went 3 of 13 from the line to just hold on for the 55-52 win.

Talking with Coach Schofield after the game he said “Bandon did a great job playing with energy and enthusiasm…we just couldn’t pull away from them.” “Our execution wasn’t great coming down the stretch and we missed way too may free throws that could have put the game away late.” he went on to say. “the girls found a way to survive and get the win”.

The Lady Bruins will be on the road next Tuesday traveling to Coos Bay to take on the Lady Pirates from Marshfield at 5:45pm.
