Mall Catches Fire

On Saturday, March 24th, Josephine County 911 received reports of a fire at 820 NE E street just before midnight.

Emergency crews were dispatched and Grants Pass Police Department was first on scene reporting heavy smoke and activated sprinklers within the structure.

Crews from Grants Pass Fire and Rural Metro Fire arrived a single story strip mall with heavy smoke showing above the Black Forest Restaurant. Fire crews began an aggressive fire attack and requested a 3rd alarm.

With the additional assistance advance of the fire was stopped, and the fire was brought under control in just over an hour, however, the building suffered major damage from the fire with a partial collapse of the roof.

Grants Pass Fire and Rural Metro Fire was assisted during this fire by Rural Metro Fire, Rogue River Fire, Applegate Fire, Illinois Valley Fire and American Medical Response. A strike team was also requested out of Jackson County.
