Man Arrested after Allegedly Stealing from Boats in Harbor

Just after 9:00 pm Wednesday evening, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 transfer call from the Brookings Police Department regarding a possible burglary in progress on a boat in the Port of Brookings Harbor near the Coast Guard Station. The caller stated a white male adult in his 40’s was on a boat called the Windchime and that there was not supposed to be anybody on the boat. The caller also said the suspect had broken into another boat and stole numerous items.

Deputy Jordan White responded and arrived within a few minutes to find that the suspect had been confronted by a few locals and had jumped in the water. Deputy White was able to get the suspect out of the water and detained him. The suspect originally gave a false name but subsequent investigation revealed the suspect was forty-four year old Kevin Wayne King and had an escape warrant/detainer for his arrest out of the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility on an original charge of Forgery. Further investigation showed that King had broken into two vessels in the Port of Brookings/Harbor.

44 yr. old Kevin Wayne King

King was transported to the Curry County Jail and lodged on the warrant, Burglary II x 2 and Providing False Information to a Police Officer. Deputy White remembered seeing King the day before parked overlooking the ocean in the Beach Front RV area in a white convertible that had a surf board in the passenger seat. After King was lodged in jail, Deputy White went back and located the same car parked unattended in the tent section at the Beachfront RV. After a records check, it was determined that the car had been stolen a few days earlier in the Fort Brag California area. Deputy White also learned that King was possibly involved in other crimes in Del Norte County including breaking into a motel room and stealing numerous items.

All information was referred to the Curry County District Attorney for additional charges against King.
