Man Arrested after Setting Up a Roadblock and Shooting an Alleged Thief

A suspect is in the Jackson County Jail on multiple charges after shooting an alleged theft suspect last night on Thompson Creek Road near Jacksonville.  

Just before 10:00pm, Saturday evening, July 16th, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a report of shots fired and a car speeding off northbound on Thompson Creek Road.

Approximately 45 minutes later, the victim knocked on a resident’s door on Highway 238 and reported being shot. Oregon State Police, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, and Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded, and a Mercy Flights ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim is reportedly in a local hospital and in recovery after surgery.

The shooting suspect, identified as 64 year old Douglas Brinton Walker, of Williams, Oregon, called in and reported that he had set up a roadblock on Thompson Creek Rd. and shot at a person that allegedly stole items from his property. The shooting victim was shot three times while driving past the suspect on a public roadway and was not near the reported theft.  

The suspect has been charged with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and second-degree attempted murder, and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division detectives continue to investigate the case.
