Man Found Critically Injured in Brookings Intersection

Very early Thursday morning, October 29th, Brookings Police dispatch received a report of an unresponsive subject laying in the intersection of US Highway 101 and Oak St. just after 2:00am.

Brookings Police arrived on scene and located an adult male unresponsive and critically injured. Police began CPR as medics and fire arrived and continued until they were relieved by medical personnel.

The male was transported by ambulance to Brookings Emergency Room where further lifesaving efforts were not successful and he was pronounced deceased.

Investigation of the incident continues but surveillance cameras in the area at about 2:09am show the subject coming down Oak Street at a high rate of speed on a skateboard and colliding with the side of a trailer towed by a semi-truck southbound on US 101.

At this time it does not appear the driver of the tractor-trailer combination committed any violations, or knew anyone had impacted the side of the trailer.

The victim’s identity and further information will be released at a later date.

Any person with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Brookings Police Department at 541-469-3118.
