Oregon Sees Slow in Covid-19 Cases in Past Week

Now six months into ‘flattening the curve’, masks, face shields and face coverings are still currently required for offices and indoor public spaces such as grocery stores, pharmacies, public transit, personal services providers, restaurants, bars, retail stores, and more. In addition, face coverings are required in outdoor public spaces when physical distancing is not possible including children 5 years old and older while local businesses continue to struggle and parents and students look to start a new school year.

On August 7th Governor Kate Brown announced that face coverings for office workers statewide could be mandated within weeks. State offices have been closed or operated with limited staff since March and Governor Brown went on to say that she regrets that she had not implemented face coverings earlier as her administration started the reopening process stating that the science just wasn’t clear.

As of Friday, August 14th, the 5 northern Oregon counties of Clackamas, Marion, Multnomah, Umatilla, and Washington, comprise 70% of all of the state of Oregon’s cases reporting 15,559 of the states 22,613 cases of COVID-19. Again, no reference was made by Governor Brown’s administration to the over 70 days of demonstrations in the Portland area as social gatherings such as family reunions and birthday parties were pointed to as the cause of outbreaks.

Oregon saw a slow of COVID-19 cases in the last 7 days with 444 fewer cases statewide than the previous week adding 2016 new cases as of Friday, August 14th.

Curry County reported that it now has 5 active cases of COVID-19 while the county has reported testing 1,140 individuals, with 1,121 negative tests, 14 total positive cases of COVID-19 with 14 recovered cases and 0 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, August 14th.

Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 6,476 individuals with 106 confirmed cases up 7 since last week. 3 new positive cases were reported to Public Health, bringing the total amount of active cases to 14.

The Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services alerted the community regarding potential COVID-19 exposure to passengers who traveled on either the RCT Blue-Green line in Crescent City or the line from Front Street to Smith River any day between August 4 and August 12. Anyone who traveled this route between these dates should monitor themselves for the following symptoms of COVID-19

Humboldt County to the south of Del Norte County reports testing 18,306 individuals adding 27 new cases in the past week now with 309 total cases, 63 active cases, 242 recoveries, 20 hospitalizations and 4 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic as of Friday, August 14th.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 4,362 individuals with 4,292 negative tests, 93 total positive cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, with 21 recoveries and 0 deaths.

Josephine County reports testing 7,595 individuals with 7,479 negative results, 136 total positive cases of COVID-19 of which 71 are recovered cases, and 2 deaths.

Jackson County went into the week testing 21,525 individuals with 21,067 negative test results, adding 89 new cases since last week and now totaling 536 total cases of COVID-19, 179 recovered cases and 2 deaths as of Friday August 14th.
