Record April Precipitation Results Seen from Space

Our record April rainfall produced so much sediment from local river systems that it is easily viewable from space via satellite imagery. With the Brookings area receiving 13.28 inches of rain in 48 hours and surrounding areas receiving precipitation in double digits as well, the sediment from the river flows is visible from a satellite 22,000 feet above.

Another fun fact: snow depth at 6000 feet at Annie Springs near Crater Lake only lowered by 6 inches during the rain event…and then actually rose 3 inches during a later snowfall event after a colder air mass settled in. Current snow depth: 101 inches!
