Saturday’s O’Brien Creek Fire Shuts Down Hwy. 101, Quick Response Holds Blaze to 25 acres

Mid afternoon, Saturday, August 12th, fire crews from an overwhelming number agencies, including, Sixes, Langlois, Port Orford, Gold Beach Fire, Pistol River Fire, Ophir Fire, Cedar Valley Fire, Myrtle Point Fire, Green Acres Fire, Coquille Fire, Bandon Fire, Harbor Fire, Curry County Sheriff’s, Port Orford Police, Oregon State Police and ODOT responded to reports of an active fire north of Ophir and south of Humbug.

Resources from the Flat Fire, including air resources, joined those local resources to quickly attack the blaze and stop the spread of the estimated 20 acre fire.

The fire, burning in difficult terrain, threatened multiple structures prompting level 3 evacuation of Coy Creek Lane and closed U.S. Hwy 101 in both directions Saturday for approximately 8 hours.  

Latest reports have the fire up to approximately 25 acres with 35% containment with limited growth Sunday.   As of Sunday evening, Coy Creek Lane was still in a evacuation Level 3, however, power has been restored and residents are being allowed back to their homes.
