Slash Burn Re-ignites Over Weekend

On Sunday, November 11th, Brookings Fire responded to 4 wildfires in under 8 hours.

Approx 4:00 am Brookings Fire and Harbor Fire responded to an escaped transient fire in Harbor. The fire was limited to 15×20 area and was mopped up. No injuries reported.

At 6:00 am, Brookings Fire, Harbor Fire & Rescue, Cape Ferrelo Fire Fighter Association, Winchuk Fire, Coos FPA, Pistol River Fire, Gold Beach Fire, Ophir Fire Department, and South Coast lumber were all toned for a slash pile that rekindled and spread rapidly due to high winds up Carpenterville Rd. All fire crews worked very quickly and efficiently to stop the fire front. The acreage is unknown at this time. No evacuations were initiated and no structures were lost No injuries reported. Fire is in the mop-up stage. Engines from Smith River Fire and Fort Dick Fire CA, staged in Harbor for South County coverage, Port Orford moved halfway down for North County coverage.

At 10:00 am Brookings Fire, Harbor Fire, CFPA, Smith River Fire CA, and Fort Dick Fire CA all responded to a brush fire about 1 mile up the North Bank of the Chetco. The fire was quickly contained and mopped up. The size of the fire was about 20×100 due to a charcoal grill. No injuries reported.

Just before 1:00 pm, Brookings Fire and Harbor Fire responded to an escaped burn pile which ignited nearby brush. The fire was quickly contained and mopped up. Fire size about 50×50. No injuries reported.
