Stolen Vehicle Leads to Lengthy Chase and Arrest

At approximately 3:30pm. Monday, March 29th, a blue 1989 Ford F250 service truck was reported stolen from a logging company in Gold Hill. Just after 4:00pm the vehicle was identified by a Phoenix police unit in West Medford.

The stolen vehicle did not stop and avoided several attempted spike deployments. The vehicle was successfully spiked on Hanley Road. However, the pursuit was terminated as it approached the city of Central Point. The suspect, later identified as 20 year old transient Justin Wayne Siebels from Red Bluff, Ca., slowed enough to allow units to follow him.

The pursuit was initiated again on Hwy. 99 where the suspect again was spiked by some spike strips and avoided other attempts by Medford PD and Central Point PD. The pursuit was terminated again as it approached Medford.

The vehicle turned onto Table Rock and then onto Merriman. On Merriman Rd. a Pursuit Intervention Technique maneuver was done and the vehicle was stopped. The driver was able to get going again and in the process of fleeing struck a Sheriff’s Office Sergeant’s vehicle. The sergeant was not injured.

The pursuit continued onto Beall, Old Stage and it returned to Hanley Road near Ross Lane, where another PIT maneuver was done. This caused the stolen vehicle to go into a ditch.

The suspect fled on foot. Jackson County Sheriff K9 Officer Titan was immediately deployed and the suspect gave up prior to Titan reaching him. Titan was called off by his handler Deputy Tracy Lenhardt and Siebels was taken into custody.
