Structure Fire Traps Resident Inside

On Wednesday afternoon, Medford Fire crews responded to reports of a structure fire after receiving multiple calls of a residence with heavy smoke and fire showing.

A home and several vehicles sustained significant damage as a result of the fire. Significant damage also occurred to a neighboring residence.

One of the occupants at became trapped on the backside of the residence after attempting to rescue a dog. By the time the occupant tried to get to the front of the house, the flames and smoke were too great. Firefighters were able to get the occupant to the front of the house safely.

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital for injuries sustained during the fire. One firefighter was transported for exhaustion, and the other for assessment of possible injuries due to a ceiling collapse. No other injuries are known at this time.

Due to the extensive damage and on-going suppression and overhaul efforts, the fire investigation and ultimately the cause of this fire is yet to be determined at this time pending further investigation.
