Stubborn Lady Bruins Split Double Header

The Lady Bruins Varsity softball team took on the Siuslaw Lady Vikings on Friday afternoon in a back and forth battle that extended into extra innings.

The Lady Vikings jumped out to an early 3 run lead in the first inning only to be matched by the Lady Bruins in the bottom of the inning.

After a lead-off double by the Lady Vikings in the top of the 2nd, Siuslaw took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 2nd. It wouldn’t be until the bottom of the 3rd that the Lady Bruins put together two hits and a sacrifice fly that brought 2 runs across the plate giving Brookings-Harbor a 5-4 lead going into the 4th.

After freshman Lady Bruin pitcher Gracie Harms hit the first batter she faced in the top of the 4th, the Lady Vikings would tie the game at 5-5 after a fly ball and error to right field. The Lady Vikings would add another run making it 5-6 with the Lady Bruins trailing in the bottom of the 4th. After putting together a single and double with one out, the Lady Bruins added 2 runs taking back the lead 7-6.

After tying it up it in the top of the 5th the Lady Vikings defense had a shutdown inning in the bottom of the 5th making the score 7-7 going into the 6th.

Carrying a 7-7 tie into the 8th inning, Siuslaw broke through the two inning scoring drought and sent eight batters to the plate scoring 4 runs, only to be matched by the Lady Bruins who also sent eight batters to the plate scoring 4 points of their own and tying the score again at 11-11.

In the 9th inning, Siuslaw sent eight batters to the plate and added 4 more runs.

Unfortunately for the Lady Bruins, their effort to come back from being down four runs in the ninth inning came up just short, as they could only score three runs in the failed comeback falling 14-15 to the Lady Vikings.

The Lady Bruins totaled 18 hits in the game doubling Siuslaw’s offense who managed 9 hits off of Lady Bruin pitcher Gracie Harms.

Gracie Harms, Lexi Schofield, Kayla Watson, Kaley Strain, and Mikela Burger all managed multiple hits for Brookings-Harbor Bruins Varsity. Harms went 5-for-6 at the plate to lead Brookings-Harbor in hits.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Bruins put together 12 hits in the first 4 innings and overwhelmed Siuslaw scoring 16 runs in a called game after 5 innings with a 16-5 win for the Lady Bruins.
