A summer of fun and flag football is coming to end as the 2021 Bruin Football Association Flag Football season winds down with some big end of season match-ups.

Colt defender Mackenzie Trost stops Texans runner Tamara Rollins.

Just as we have in the prior weeks, we spent some time with another member of Coach Bavaro’s Bruin Football Association coaches, former BHHS quarterback Ethan Hooper. We asked coach Hooper to share his coaching experience.

The Raiders Reagan Tribur breaking away for the touchdown.

“I have been involved in our Bruin Flag Football for years as a referee and then a commissioner of the league, so moving to be a coach wasn’t a step too far.” Ethan told the Compass. “It’s a very fun challenge when you have kids from all different levels of the game making it a daily challenge to meet each kid where they are at to help them grow into the game of football.”

Kansas City defenders Oscar White and Graesyn Holmes try to chase down Buccaneers Elijah Brunson before he turns the corner.
The Raiders Eli Zavala caught by a diving Oscar White on his way to the endzone.

“For me, I have experience on what the high school runs and the drills they do to practice so I tried to incorporate the same ideas into my practice plan so the kids did not have to relearn anything as they get older. We even ran some plays they use at the high school so in a few years they can see it and remember it.”

The Titans Lincoln Rosenberg reaching for extra yards as the Vikings Skylar Tribur ends the play.
The Buccaneers Mac Petrie beating Chiefs defender Graesyn Holmes to the outside for extra yards on the play.

“I really wanted to leave the kids with a deeper appreciation for the game itself and new knowledge of the “why” we do things in football and in the process, they taught me how to really reach each kid individually and the joy it is to pass on knowledge.”

The Chiefs Damian Parras racing Buccaneer defender Preston McVay to the corner.
The Raiders Sawyer Broulliard is just out of defender Brayden Bavaro’s reach.

It was a really enjoyable year with the kids and I’m excited to see them next summer as they get older!”
