U.S. Coast Guard and Multiple Agencies Rescue Injured Fisherman From Otter Rock

Crews from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay responded to reports of an injured fisherman near Devil’s Punchbowl at Otter Rock, just south of Depoe Bay Saturday afternoon.

Multiple agencies including the Depoe Bay Fire Dept., Newport Fire Dept., North Lincoln Fire Dept., Toledo Fire Dept., Pacific West Ambulance, and the United States Coast Guard Depoe Bay as well as a helicopter crew from their Air Facility in Newport, were coordinated by the Willamette Valley Communications Center 911 after initial assessments from authorities determined that the injured individual would need to be extricated through an a airlift.

As the MH-65E Dolphin crew from the U.S. Coast Guard Newport Air Facility was en route, the Lincoln County Ropes Team descended the cliff and was able to reach and stabilize the fisherman who had fallen approximately 40 feet off a cliff, suffering a compound fracture to one of his lower extremities.

After the man was stabilized, he was then hoisted out of the area and transferred to the Newport Airport and into Life Flight Network.
