U.S. Coast Guard Rescues Distressed Sailboat

Tuesday morning September 8th, U.S. Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay received a report of a sailboat adrift and in distress under 40 knot winds.

A 47′ Motor Lifeboat was immediately dispatched and placed the sailboat in tow after reaching the distressed vessel.

The Motor Lifeboat Victory was also launched to assist and relieved the tow, safely returning the vessel to port.

The bird pictured sought shelter on the Victory to escape the ash and smoke and rode back to land with the crew.
