Wildfire NE of Eagle Point Grows to Over 500 Acres

As of last reports at 8:00pm Thursday evening, the Worthington Fire is at approximately 500 acres in size and is burning NE of Medford and about 5 miles NE of Eagle Point. The fire is burning in forest and brush on BLM land and private property protected by Oregon Department of Forestry. An aggressive aerial attack by 6 helicopters, 3 large airtankers and one very large airtanker is underway while two dozers are also on scene with more resources ordered. 

As of 8:00pm, Thursday, July 30th, residents of Worthington Rd. have been subject to a Level 3 evacuation meaning danger is currently affecting their area or is imminent, and residents should leave immediately. With temperatures hitting 100 degrees Thursday afternoon in Eagle Point and red-flag warnings issued, the fire was first reported Thursday afternoon and quickly increased in size from it’s original 50 acres to over 500 acres late Thursday evening. The cause is under investigation.
