Bruin head coach Shaun Bavaro and his varsity football program, (scheduled to be in Lakeview to take on the Honkers in a pre-season contest Friday night, September 27th,at 7:00pm), have been in a state of limbo after Lakeview High School received a violent threat on social media this past Saturday, September 21st.
At approximately 11:00 pm late last Saturday night, Lakeview high school received a message on social media, naming 7 individuals as targets that stated, on “Monday, September 23, 2019 me and my fellow friends will be shooting up your school be prepared to be in a blood bath WE WANT THESE PEOPLE.”
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was immediately contacted and an investigation was initiated that led to the closure of all Lake County School District 7 facilities and activities on Sept 23, 24, and 25.
The initial investigation led to several persons of interest and in cooperation with Detectives of the Oregon State Police, interviews were conducted which resulted in an admission by a thirteen year old female. The youth’s admission did not reveal a motive to her actions other than she, “wanted to see what would happen.”
Authorities say the investigation explored the possibility the youth acted in concert with others, however, it is believed she acted alone.
As of Wednesday morning, September 25th, local law enforcement addressed the threat that closed the Lake County School District 7 and the youth was removed from the community and taken into custody. The youth has been charged with Disorderly Conduct and Harassment and has been lodged at the Klamath County Juvenile Detention Center.
In addition, all Lake County School District 7 school and community extracurricular activities are to resume after 5:00pm Wednesday, Sept 25th.
Concern for his players was on BHHS Coach Bavaro’s mind Tuesday “First and foremost the safety of my guys is always our #1 priority” he said.
With the situation in Lakeview resolved Wednesday evening, Friday nights game with the Lakeview Honkers in Lakeview at 7:00pm Friday night, has been canceled and has been rescheduled to Saturday, at Lakeview High School, September 28th at a time still to be determined as the logistics of officials and other details are arranged.
