Bruin Boys Complete Dominating Sweep to Open League Play in the Les Schwab ‘Game of the Week’

Sophomore left-hander, Brody Bavaro took the mound in the second game going 3 innings, striking out 6, allowing no hits and no runs.

Coming off a season opening win in Rogue River earlier in the week, head coach Kieth Wallin and his OSAA 8th ranked Bruin boys varsity baseball team hosted the Rogue River Chieftains Friday afternoon doubleheader to complete the three game series.

Coach Wallin sent freshman right-hander, #24, Tucker Delay to the mound to start the first game of the afternoon. Delay held the Chieftains scoreless in the top of the first to give the Bruin offense a chance to take advantage of the scoreless Rogue River half of the inning. The Bruins put their bats to work getting a man on base and working around the bases to score in the bottom half of first and take an early 1-0 lead into the second inning.

Senior, Isaac Hughes, #16, getting back to the bag.

The Bruins continued to keep the Chieftains off the scoreboard for five strong innings as the Bruin boys offense scored in every inning with three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth after Delay allowed only 2 hits while striking out 10 in four innings pitched and senior Sammy Brouillard closed the game in 5th inning to secure the 10-0 win for the Bruins.

In the late game of the afternoon double-header, coach Wallin put sophomore Brody Bavaro, #21, on the hill, looking to get the third game of series to sweep the Chieftains.

Senior, Lincoln Rosenberg, #7, making the catch in right-field.

Much like Delay in the first game of the afternoon, Bavaro came out in the top of the first and kept Rogue River off the basepaths, striking out two and leaving the Chieftains scoreless again in the first. The Bruin boys offense came out in the top of the first sending eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and pushing four runs across the plate to jump out to an early 4-0 lead.

Senior, Colton Burger, #28, lining up a basehit.

The Chieftains had no answer for the Bruins scoring and continued to remain scoreless through four innings as the Bruin boys ruthlessly put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in every inning.

Senior, Sammy Brouillard, #8, making the play at third.

In the top of the fifth, Rogue River worked players into scoring position and scored the Chieftains only two runs in all three games of the series, getting two runners across the plate before #10, junior Owen Austin retired the side to end the game with another overwhelming 19-2 Bruin win to sweep the series.

The Bruin boys will be on the road next Thursday, traveling to Reedsport for a non-league double-header with first pitch scheduled for 2:30pm.
