At approximately 12:25pm, Wednesday afternoon, June 3rd, emergency crews from the Depoe Bay Fire District, including a rope rescue team were dispatched to the Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area regarding reports of a possible fall and surf rescue.
Upon arrival, authorities located the victim on the rocks beneath the popular coastal landmark and immediately repelled down to reach her and began advanced life support treatment, determining that she had suffered critical injuries.
After careful evaluation considering the difficult terrain and the severity of her injuries, the Lincoln County Technical Rescue Team determined that a helicopter hoist would be the safest form of extraction, and a United States Coast Guard helicopter crew was called to assist.
The victim was lifted from the rocks, stabilized by the Coast Guard helicopter crew before being transported to a Willamette Valley trauma center.
It has been reported rescue efforts were unable to save the woman, who later died from her injuries after arriving at the hospital.
