Accident Involving Semi Takes Two Lives

On Thursday, December 28, 2017, at approximately 1:15 PM, Oregon State Troopers from the Central Point Area Command responded to a semi-tractor/passenger versus vehicle crash on Highway 140 at the intersection of Kershaw Road. This crash was in Jackson County approximately 3 miles northeast of Medford.

The preliminary investigation has determined that a westbound 2001 Freightliner was westbound on Highway 140 near milepost 2 when a 2013 Toyota Camry, that was northbound on Kershaw, failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the path of the Freightliner. There were two occupants of the Toyota and they were pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel.

The names of those involved will be released at a later date. The operator of the semi was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation and no criminal charges are being considered.

The Oregon State Police was assisted by Fire District 3, Mercy Flights, Jackson County Sheriff’s office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
