Valley Catholic came out strong starting the first quarter with good outside shooting taking a 17-9 lead after the first quarter of play.

The Lady Bruins defense couldn’t stop Valley Catholics outside shooting, while a lack of rebounding under their defensive basket allowed Valley Catholic to rebound and capitalize on missed shots.

The Lady Bruins struggled to get inside shots throughout the first half of play as turnovers and cold outside shooting allowed Valley Christian to extend their lead to 26-13 at the end of the first half of play

“We were real timid and overwhelmed early on…we were just a mess for a half” said Coach Schofield. Senior Abby Farmer kept the Lady Bruins in the game in the first half scoring all but 5 of the Lady Bruins 13 first-half points with 8 points and 1 blocked shot.

The Lady Bruins started the second half with a much more aggressive game plan. Strong defense denying the outside shooting of Valley Catholic allowed the Lady Bruins to break out and get some inside shots opening up their outside shooting game. “Our first 3 possessions, we got looks in the paint and finally settled in on offense” said Coach Schofield. “We came all the way back to take the lead in the 3rd before they settled in and we went back and forth the rest of the game” he went on to say.

Brookings went on a 18-3 offensive run putting the Lady Bruins up as much as 6 late in the 3rd period, however, Valley Catholic would make a late run bringing the game within a point by the end of the third period 29-30 Lady Bruins.

The fourth quarter brought even play. Abby farmer led the Lady Bruins with 18 points. Brianna Humphrey was strong in the post and Mickey Fulton was a huge lift off the bench with her defense and rebounding.

However, late fouls and turnovers would hurt the Lady Bruins as Valley Catholic took the lead at the free throw line and held on late to take the win 46-43.
