The Lady Bruins evened up their overall preseason season record at 4-4 after Monday’s win over Gold Beach and then the big win Tuesday night over Del Norte. In both games, the Lady Bruins showed signs of coming together as a team with high energy play at the net, and in the back row.

Thursday night was the league opener for the 4-4 Lady Bruins, and the Lady Bruins hosted the 4-1, #6 OSAA ranked Cascade Christian Lady Challengers out of Medford. The Lady Bruins were ready to play and gave the Challengers all they could handle early in the first match.

Sierra Fitzhugh #5 had 4 aces, 4 kills, 1 block and 14 digs on the night.

A perhaps startled Lady Challenger team attempted to assert themselves several times, but the Lady Bruins refused with 9 Bruins recording 47 digs led by junior Sierra Fitzhugh #5 with 14. The Lady Bruins kept pace with Cascade Christian, trading points until the Lady Challengers beat Brookings-Harbor to 25, ending the first match 22-25.

In the second match, a more focused and serious Lady Challenger team stepped onto the court and applied the pressure early attempting to distance themselves from the Lady Bruins opening up an 8 point Cascade Christian lead at one point. But the stubborn Lady Bruins roared back with back row digs, and 18 kills from the front line led by senior Cartyr Fitzhugh #6 with 5, only to fall just short once again 20-25.
