After finishing their regular season Thursday night with a win against the Crescent Elk, Coach Fulton and his Azalea Bruins boys basketball team had one more set of goals to finish off starting Friday night at the 50th annual JayCees tournament in Crescent city.

The AZ Bruins started off play Friday night at 8:30 pm against Middleton Middle School from California.

The Bruins wasted no time getting into the game and immediately got in front of Middleton early in the game. The AZ Bruins held off many offensive pushes by Middleton going on to win their opening game 50-44.

The Bruins were next matched up with Washington Middle School from Cloverdale, California and found themselves in a tough game late.

After taking an 11 point lead at one point leading 20-9, the Bruins allowed Washington to storm back late in the game and tie the score 40-40. With less than 1 second on the clock, the Bruins fouled sending Washington to the free throw line. After hitting their free throws, Washington took the heartbreaking win to advance.

The loss dropped the Azalea Bruins into the bracket playing for third place where they were matched up with Terrace Middle School from Lakeport, California.

After Coach Fulton gathered up his team letting them know how close they were to placing, the AZ Bruins came out determined leading Terrace early. The Bruins never looked back and did not allow Terrace to get back into the game and went on to take the win and 3rd place overall in the JayCees 50th Annual Basketball tournament.

But 3rd place honors were not the only awards the Coach Fulton’s team would take home that night.

Both Jake Beaman and Fabian Villa took home All-Tournament honors.
