Azalea Middle School Bruin Football Blows-Out Coquille in Season Opener

Azalea Middle School opened their 2022 tackle football season hosting Coquille early Wednesday evening, sending a message to the rest of the league that AZ Bruins will be the team to beat this season.

Jordan Wright, #70, and the Azalea Bruin team defense kept Coquille out of the endzone.

The AZ Bruins dominated all aspects of play Wednesday evening, shutting down the Coquille offense in 3 plays to start the first quarter of play.

Offense then took over, as the AZ Bruins drove the ball the 65 yards in their first offensive series, culminating in a 2 yard quarterback sweep by #12, Garady Maylin, to the right corner of the end zone, and 6-0 lead. The Azalea defense would stop Coquille again, late in the first period, and get into the endzone again after Elijah Quintero, #1, took an option sweep 48 yards for Azalea’s second touchdown, and a 13-0 lead.

The Coquille defense struggled with the size and speed of the AZ Bruins from the opening possession, and Elijah Quintero exploited the edge again early in the second period with another sweep to the right side before outrunning the Coquille defense for another Azalea touchdown. Owen Austin, #10 broke the line for a 65 yard touchdown run to put the AZ Bruins up 28-0 at the half time break.

Azalea would add 3 more touchdowns in the second half of play, while the defense held Coquille scoreless, giving Azalea a convincing 48-0 win to start the season.
